When the Water Comes...

Once upon a time, there was a girl. And she met a boy, under strange and near-fortuitous circumstances. Somehow, in a matter of days, she found herself totally smitten. For a time, they continued in this manner, staying on the phone til all hours, their voices wrapping around one another like soft blankets. It all seemed so perfect, so wonderful.

Until a dark cloud sat upon their growing feelings like a... giant, fat, black cloud of misery and hate. It came in the form of a jilted ex, who brought her fury like a thousand storms. She raged, and tried to burn down all that they had built to create. She dug up the past, claiming it to be the not so distant past. She tried to bring down everyone in her path.

And when the storm subsided, and the ex went on her way, they sat together, trying to piece together what was left from the wreckage. The boy told the girl he would understand if she didn't want to be around him, that he could understand if she hated him. But she didn't.

The girl simply kissed his forehead and said "It will be fine."

And maybe, with effort, it will be.

It's not fiction, but it sounds it. Who knows what will come of it.

My choice to include Dig as this piece's theme was made within the first few lines, but here's a nice chunk, which I feel is very apt :

We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify.

We all have something that digs at us
At least we dig each other.
