FruitstandLOCATION: Fruistand , OremYEAR: 2001TAGS: fruitstand, workingPUBLISHED: February 19, 2008My grandparents owned a fruitstand when I was in Junior High. I worked there everyday every summer--from 10 til 5 for a low $6.00 an hour with my favorite cousin. It was a challenging job some days. When there were football games and such, we were terribly overcrowded. Seriously--who buys cheese curd and nectarines for a football game? WAY TOO MUCH WORK! and mess... I learned a lot though. How to tell a good melon from a bad one, how to weigh fruit, the differences between dozens of varieties of peaches and when they were in season, and mainly: sugar hurts. We sold candy as well. A lot of it. Everyday I sat between the counter, and a massive wall of candy. Candybars, liquorish rope, penny candy, every kind you can think of. My Grandma let us have as much as we wanted--and we reaped the consequences from that "freedom" I though I had. That is when I realized that sugar hurts. And I wouldn't be a bit surprised if I get diabetes sometime in my life. I've gotten a bit sidetracked. We got off work at 5:00. All day my cousin and I would fight over the radio. At the time, she like rap, I liked country. So you can imagine the pain of listening the other's station. Everyday during my time with the radio, this song would come on. I hated this song, and continue to--even now. The song lasted FOREVER and made my shift feel as though it did as well. Now I wish I could just work there one last time!
