becoming ungluedLOCATION: Internet , CaliforniaYEAR: 1994TAGS: stuck in a moment, friends, U2PUBLISHED: October 6, 2008Many years ago I found myself in a divorce, almost bankrupt, two small children, one of them with disabilities..a friend turned me on to the internet, there I found a chat room about U2..I ventured in not knowing what to expect, the past few chatrooms seemed full of immature kids and rude people, this one was different. The people were interesting, smart; quick witted and most of all compassionate. What made these people different? They all shared a common interest, a band called U2. I had heard and liked their music in the 80's although I didn't know much about them except that they were a band from Ireland. I met some people in that chat room that day that changed my life, my perspective and I gained a whole new love of music, especially from a band called U2. One of these new friends, a U2 fan, stayed very close to me and wrote me emails and befriended me when I needed a friend. He walked me through my divorce, when I felt despair, suicidal almost, he recommended listening to various U2 songs that brought me higher and my mood lifted, my mind shifted. I found inspiration from listening to them, I found my faith was stronger and my dreams bigger. When I wanted to give up and was having a hard time with one of my children, I was told that Bono had given his mother trouble, he wasn't the perfect kid, but look where he is now. Hang on, you'll make it through. I did and I am. Maybe my kid won't be the next Bono but it gave me hope. I could suddenly relate to every U2 song, I was stuck in a moment I couldn't get out of but I did, this U2 journey has put a new line on my horizon and I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being who you are; Thanks for being U2 fans, because without you I might not be here. Thanks for believing in each other and in a world with possibilities. U2 thank you for producing great music that inspires, rewires and transforms us to strive to be better individuals to help others when they are in need. Most of all thank you to a special U2 fan who has become my best friend. God Bless.
