Jason Cole/ 9th GradeLOCATION: Beaches Chapel High School, Neptune BeachYEAR: 1989TAGS: Boyfriend, ObsessionPUBLISHED: January 18, 2008Yes, I do know this was originally a Jimi Hendrix song. Initially I didn't know this though. I was in ninth grade and I had a boyfriend that was a senior (much to my parents dismay). We attended a small private Christian high school, I emphasize the word small-maybe 40 students total.
Jason Cole, a self-proclaimed music buff (he really was smart)helped shape my music tastes. He banned me from listening to Power-95, the local pop radio station and started encouraging more sophisticated music listening. He did introduce me to Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and the Police. I was drawn to Sting, which he could live with, and I proceeded to develop a slight obsession with the artist. Little Wing was 'our song' and it was such a fun innocent time in my life, listening to it performed by any artist, not just Sting makes a smile creep over my face.Everything was new and fresh. The first time you love someone you associate everything in the immediate vicinity with them and your budding relationship. The introduction, and history of music that I learned from Jason helped to essentially shape my music tastes and preferences. Throughout high school and even into college I insisted I was the biggest Sting fan in my town. I had a six foot poster of his face, from the Nothing Like the Sun album cover hanging on the ceiling directly over my bed in my dorm room. I still respect Sting, and admire his work. Unfortunately I think I over did things a little with the constant stream of his music in my headphones and don't actually listen to him that much anymore. Isn't it weird how preferences change over the years.

Is this a cover of the Hendrix version? The Hendrix "Little Wing" was a real theme in my early college experience. (1/19/2008)
