Took Off Clothes for a Job InterviewLOCATION: Grocery store , PhilippinesYEAR: 1997TAGS: job interview, switched clothes, took off clothes, hold on, wilson phillipsPUBLISHED: February 17, 2008I was really so nervous that weekend, because I got a call earlier that week telling me to report for a job interview. I really worked so hard to qualify for the initial screening, to pass the exams, and submit all the nitty-gritty documentation requirements. Believe me first jobs have a way of making you feel unworthy, as if you do not deserve it. Expectations are high because you are chosen among qualified people. I know, it’s a stupid thought, but I’m sure everybody can somehow relate to that feeling.  Monday came, and my sister had agreed to go along with me for some moral support. We decided to meet at a grocery store near the company office. As soon as I walked in the store, I noticed that she is already frowning. When I approached her she said, “What are you wearing?†I was wearing a black long sleeve shirt, jeans and a sneaker. I only replied to her question with a simple, “Thisâ€, to which she replied, “Are you crazy? You are going to an interview wearing that?†With that she grabbed my arm and pulls me towards the back of the store. Once there, she asked a clerk where the restroom was. When we are finally where she wants us to be, she simply said, “Take off your clothesâ€, I said “What?!†The look on her face told me to follow the order or she is going to do it herself. As I was peeling off my clothes she said, “We are going to switched clothes, you are not going to wear that in the interview.†I was beyond surprise at that moment so I just said, “Fineâ€. By the way, she was wearing a light-brown blouse with a matching pencil-cut skirt.  As we walked out of the restroom I noticed that some of the clerks and shoppers were looking at us because somehow they noticed. I just tried to ignore it. We went straight to the company for my job interview. After the interview, we returned to the same grocery store and switched back to our own clothes. As a sign of gratitude, we bought some stuffs from the store and went home.  A week after the interview, I got another call this time I got the job! I was so happy so we celebrated a little. We went to this Resto-Bar with a live band, and at some point during their set they sang Hold On by Wilson Phillips. I immediately felt a tug in my heart I looked over to where my sister is sitting and mouthed the words – Thank You.  And from that day on that song has always reminded me of the time I took off my clothes for a job interview! Wink!
