The Bad Day ReunionLOCATION: Resto-Bar , PhilippinesYEAR: 2005TAGS: reunion, sing-along, resto-bar, band, bad day, daniel powterPUBLISHED: February 18, 2008A month after we were fired (the apprentice way… hehehe), we were informed that our checks are ready for pick-up. I went there in the afternoon, and I realized that most of my former co-workers also decided to go there during that time. Just a brief history, there were 150 regular employees that were fired in our division alone the previous month.  We were outside the premises at a resto-bar across the company, at day it is open for breakfast and lunch and at night for some live band treats (and of course some drinking). While waiting for an advice from the accounting department (some sort of delay), we decided to hang around the place. An hour later the accounting department called and said that the checks are ready. Before we left we agreed to meet afterwards for some sort of an unofficial reunion (because some are leaving the country in a few weeks for an overseas work).  Sure enough early that night we all met there, there was a lot of good natured cussing going about. We almost occupied the whole place, but the manager seemed happy so there is no problem. So there we were laughing, drinking and talking about old times, and it was really a happy moment.  Halfway through the night we saw a band setting up their instruments on the stage. At first we did not mind the singing, because we were more interested in talking with each other. Until they sang Bad Day by Daniel Powter, we immediately fell silent through the intro, and then realized that we were singing along. At the chorus we could not take it anymore, we all stood up and sang in unison. By the way the resto-bar is an open air establishment so I’m very much sure, we were heard across the street – if you know what I mean? Arms outstretched, arms linking, some where standing on chairs, and some even had the nerve to get up on the stage! It was really a night to remember some were even crying, a lot of hugging, and slaps on the back.  Today, every time I hear that song I always smile at the memory of how we freed ourselves of the pain that night at the resto-bar. It was like being thrown back in our past and discovered that we can still hold on to those happy moments – even on a Bad Day.
