Music has been instrumental in shaping me and ultimately keeping me sane. In the lyrics and melodies I find the words to the feelings I don’t understand. Music connects with my mood and is the median through which I express my self. During 2007, though many bands are quite distinguished in my mind, Fall Out Boy became one of my favorites. This is due largely to the fact that my best friend, Jenny, was madly in love with both their music and with them. Everyday I spent in her company (which was nearly everyday) nothing emanated from her ipod speakers more than their songs.

It was at the climax of our infatuation with them that we made the decision to attend one of their concerts, for they were on tour. Procuring the tickets was definitely a challenge but once they had arrived nothing could dull our excitement. We had VIP tickets (free) placing us right behind the pit. As we sat awaiting the start of the first band our combined anticipation was enough to insure that neither of us could remain seated or silent for more than a few seconds.

Perhaps of thirty minutes or so before Cobra Starship (the first opening band) was to perform we where offered a once in a lifetime opportunity, we could meet Fall Out Boy!!! At this point in time nothing thrilled us more than this unexpected proposal.
Though it took a ridiculously long time, we finally were able to meet all four members of Fall Out Boy. They signed our shirts and though we where nearly faint with nervous excitement we made it through the whole situation without making fools of ourselves.
The concert preceded as planned, living up to our expectations in everyway. The music was loud to the point of deafening, the visual effects outstanding and the band amazing. My friend and I lost our voices for days after, but in that moment our volume knew no limit.

Though times and music preferences change our music memories stay with us, part of our personal music cultural. Fall Out Boy no longer hold the title of “favorite” band, but this is a moment in time that I will remember forever as my very first concert.
