One room, so dark you forget who you are. Music so loud you can't help but feel its booming caress. Neon glow sticks dancing through the air, a complex web of light. People around, lost in the same trance you find yourself in. This is a rave, the same as I found myself in as my weekend began.

Five long days I had spent waking before the sun (5:30) and going through the motions of the living as I prepared for school. Thirty hours I had spent within the dilapidated walls of my school, surrounded my a sea of face of whom few were known or even acknowledged. Fifteen hours I had spent at my work, my body freezing as my figures moved furiously across the uniform computer keys. All the while I had longed for the weekend, my two day break from it all. No school to bother with. No alarm to blare and rip me from my blissful slumber. No more of my time alloted for someone else's purpose. I was free to relax and enjoy myself, accompanied by my dear companions.

After school and work at finally end I made my way to my friend James' house accompanied by my friend David. Upon arrival I was greeted by James as he flung open the door and welcomed us into his house and out of the torrential downpour. We were the first of an unknown number of ravers to arrive and as customary we 'got this party started!' Glow sticks were snapped, lights were turned off, and music was turned up as loud as it could go.

Ricky, a friend of the host, arrived and shortly there after so did the greatly anticipated pizza. Up until this point we had not really been able to start the rave due to the presence of little children (James' siblings) in the room and the chipper blaring dialogue of SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick. Saddened by this and the lack of people we decided to embark on a quest, a quest to bring us all the people we so longed for.

We picked up a girl named Ellen and then preceded to another friends house where we met a few others. Inviting them we made our way back to James' house. As Ricky was the oldest (being 18) he drove us and rather badly I might add.

After returning to the house, the lights went off, the music came on, and glowsticks sailed through the air as we danced. The whole world faded away and as more people (those previously invited) arrived and joined in, it became impossible to not get caught up in the madness. We danced endlessly, regardless of exhaustion or the escalating temperature. The rhythm of the music had become our heart beat, the only thing keeping us alive.

Mindless Self Indulgence's 'Shut Me Up' was just one of the songs that played, giving fire to this volatile and crazy teenage rave.

The dancing ceased as Saturday arrived (about 12:00am or so). Exhausted, sweaty kids collapsed on to couches and chairs, slipping into sleeps seductive grasp. To tired to go home, I too took up a bed amongst the sleeping bodies.

However, being the insomniac that I am, I found that though tired sleep still would not come. A friend of mine found that sleep eluded him as well and so we lay awake talking all night long. We never found sleep and so come the next morning were completely insane. The insanity only sleep deprivation can bring.

That night was epic, nothing short of amazing, and this song bore witness to the crazed behaviors of sleep deprived caffeine addicts.

I have different ones, being kinda too old to hit the rave scene, but I do recall several parties at the Dr's home (at the hospital) whilst training as a nurse! Milky pink brandy cocktails, incessant disco vibe, waiting in case a Doc asked for a dance... (4/14/2008)
