No Static At All

Steely Dan is known as one of (if not the best) studio bands ever. Their work product is simply amazing. The downside of their perfectionism is that during the height of their productivity and popularity, they never toured. When Walter and Donald went their separate ways in the early '80's there was a very good chance no one would ever have the chance to see them perform.

But thankfully, in the mid-1990's they got back together (as most bands of that era have done) and went on their first tour since the band's inception in the early 1970's.

One of my best friends, Robert and I were equally hooked on Steely Dan and so when they came through town we knew we had to go....but we didn't get tickets right away and so we showed up to the concert trying our luck with scalpers.

We bumped into a scalper outside the Omni that was offering two second row center seats on the floor. No bull..it was almost too good to be true (and there was good chance they were counterfeits)...but to be within range of Donald's spit...we couldn't pass it up.

Thanks to Rob's brilliant negotiating, we managed to snag the tickets just as the concert was scheduled to begin at just a few bucks over face. We'll never know if they were real or not, but they got us in and no one else claimed the seats.

Simply put, the concert was kick ass. It was like Walter and Donald picked up just where they left off. The band and all of their pencil-legged backup singers were as sharp as ever ...it was like sitting in the studio with 20,000 invited guests.
