A Concert To RememberLOCATION: The Summit , HoustonYEAR: 1983TAGS: Friends, Concerts, DadPUBLISHED: May 21, 2008Back in the early eighties I was finally old enough to start going to live shows...of course I needed to find a willing adult to go with me and my friends. My second cousin, Kenny was called to duty most often...of course, he was of the age where these concerts still had modest appeal so he didn't mind - and sometimes he even initiated the deal. But other times, it was my dad who schlepped the kids off to these loud (and often lousy in his mind) concerts. But even my day loved the show by The Police on their Synchronicity Tour. He took my friend Russell and me...and to this day, it is perhaps the one show that sticks in my mind over all others from that time period...and I saw a lot of shows. I particularly remember the opening of the show - the stage bathed in blue, yellow, and red light to mimic the album cover - the band members come on stage....and then suddenly Sting counts 1-2-3-4...and boom...they're off and running with Synchronicity and an hour and a half of high energy great songs. All this comes back to me at this moment because last night The Police were in town...doing their thing...some 25 years later. I didn't see the show, but Russel did. He sent me a picture message from his cell phone.... the more things change (ticket price inflation), the more they stay the same (great tunes).
