Shinystar | MEMORY FROM 1999

A cry for help

LOCATION: Home and School , Atlanta GA

YEAR: 1999

TAGS: Jeremy, Pearl Jam

PUBLISHED: February 16, 2008

This song is based on a true story.  Pearl Jam wrote this song because they read a news article about a boy commiting suicide because he was being bullied in school as far as I know.  The lead singer was inspired to write a song because it really was like "Whoa this is a real thing and it happens."

Back in my younger days, I heard this song after school one day.  My brother was playing the song, and he explained to me that it is about a boy that is pushed to the brink, and he ends up killing himself with a gun in front of the whole class.  I think it really exposes the reality of bullies in school, and it's no joke.  I'm sure we have all been there.  Whenever I think back to the harder days of adolescence Jeremy comes to mind.
