Fine, I Like Adult Contemporary. Sometimes.LOCATION: 88 Bleecker, New York, NYYEAR: 2007TAGS: Jessica Simpson, bed, breakup, guilty pleasurePUBLISHED: February 5, 2008At some point it was cool to like John Mayer. And then it became tragically uncool to like him. And then he did some blues and it was a little bit embarrassing to like him, but sort of acceptable. And then he dated Jessica Simpson and blogged too much and then it became gross to like him. The verdict is still out for me, but I do really enjoy listening to half this album when I am alone in my apartment and there is no indie cred to dispute. However, the track I enjoy most is this one, which I discovered during one of those times when you are both passively lying on your bed doing nothing and actively thinking about the weight of the world on your shoulders. This song is the best elegy to a dying relationship. We've all been there and we all know what the descent feels, sounds and tastes like. And when he sings, "It's not a silly little moment. It's not the storm before the calm. This is the deep and dyin breath of this love we've been workin' on" you can almost forget that he may be referring to Jennifer Love Hewitt AND Jessica Simpson. Almost.
