I'm The Good Girl

I have always been "The Good Girl".  In fact, I'm still "The Good Girl".  Sure, I tried smoking; didn't we all at one point but I seriously never got the hang of actually inhaling (I was channeling Bill Clinton!).  I've never been a drinker; I'm almost 39 and I have never been drunk.  In fact, I haven't had a drink in over 2 years as the last 2 times I drank, I was extremely ill after and this is after only ONE drink!  I've never done drugs and I don't do casual sex.  Up until senior year of high school I was pretty quiet and "obedient" in school.  But senior year changed everything.

Our high school was 10th, 11th & 12th grades which meant we had the same Phy Ed teacher all 3 years.  The girls teacher was, as I "affectionately" called her, Millie-dred.  Millie-dred weighed, easily, 300 pounds.  My sister who graduated 3 years before me, also had Millie-dred as a teacher and they'd had their fair share of run-ins.  I had no run-ins until senior year.

Millie-dred favored the jocks and my friends and I weren't jocks.  We were just the average kids who went to school, did our work and that was it.  So, in senior year, we were playing some game in Phy Ed (I can't remember which one) and the jocks were one team and everyone else was the other team.  I swear, in the middle of the game, Millie-dred changes the rules.  Okay, this was not cool and me and a couple of my friends became extremely vocal about it.  In fact, we stopped the game and challenged Millie-dred.  Needless to say, she didn't like that.

A few weeks later, report cards came out and they always sent them to our houses.  I walk in the door and my Mom hands me the report card and she's trying not to laugh as she asks "What did you do?".  On my report card in the comment section for Phy Ed it says "Is Disruptive In Class".  I was astounded!  I told my Mom what happened and she was totally cool and says "I find it hard to respect a Phy Ed teacher who looks like her".  She totally understood about the rule change thing and my Dad didn't even care about the comment.  One of my other friends' parents had the same reaction but another one got in big trouble.  My parents totally didn't care and actually backed me up!

Millie-dred and I never saw eye to eye the rest of the year.  It still dumbfounds me that a school would continue to employ a Phy Ed teacher who is obviously in such poor physical condition that she couldn't even do the exercises that she made us do.  Needless to say, Millie-dred is long gone from my old high school so my nieces won't ever get the pleasure of having that woman "teach" them in Phy Ed!

I spent a lot of time in the hall outside the classroom for being disruptive. Still got good grades, because the teacher actually respected me for standing up to him. (4/17/2008)
