The Infamous Bronco Chase and Working at Crystal Creek

LOCATION: Crystal Creek Campground Party Store , Omer, MI

YEAR: 1994

TAGS: Madonna, OJ Simpson, Crystal Creek

PUBLISHED: March 11, 2008

For those who don't know, my parents own Russell Canoe Livery and Campground in Omer, Michigan.  There are actually two locations, one being Crystal Creek Campground.  Actually, that campground is right near my parents' home.  The party store is in front of the house.  Well, in June 1994, my Mom, Dad, and I were glued to the TV watching the infamous OJ Simpson white Bronco chase.

After watching the chase on TV for a while, I had to go out to the store for some campers.  Well, I turned on the radio and was listening to this song.  I fell in love with it right away.  It wasn't the Madonna of my childhood (I was 13 after all and not a child anymore), nor was it the embarrassing cone bra Madonna of the late 1990s.  No, this song (and indeed the album), profiled a mature Madonna who had something to say.

My favorite period of Madonna's music is from 1994 until 2000.  She had so many wonderful albums, and she starred in one of my favorite movies of all time, "Evita."  She really became introspective and found her voice.  Gone was the bubble gum pop and the sex goddess; all that was left was Madonna herself.  While she has done very much good work since approximately 2000, the body of work from 1994 to 2000 stands by itself.  If you add it to her early works, you have a superstar!  She fully deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  I am proud that she grew up in Michigan.
