TAGS: song meanings, sad lisa, cat stevens, dogPUBLISHED: September 27, 2008This isn't a music review. Actually, you know what? This is a very beautiful, emotional song. The lyrics are a little iffy, but that's Cat Stevens. There. There's my review. Anyway. I have a theory. This song is about a fucking dog. "But Ruby!" you cry. "That can't be!" It can, my friends. And it is. First and formost, we know that the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens is a big dog fan, to the extent that his first single was entitledI Love My Dog. Now I'll be the first to admit that the first verse doesn't play too much into this theory of mine, excepting the last few lines here: You're lost in the dark, you can trust me, This line, at least seems to me, like he is talking to someone who is not his equal, completely dependent on him. Like a dog. I digress.
Everyone who has had a dog knows that it's almost impossible to ignore a dog's sad eyes. It's their most powerful tool. She walks alone from wall to wall, lost in a hall, There we go. This is the easiest-- he's gone away, left his dog at home. The dog is sad, pacing around the hall until he returns.
Does this even need an explanation? So there.
