St. Aspen or St. Regis?LOCATION: St. Regis Hotel, AspenYEAR: 2004TAGS: Christmas, Aspen, Friends, Family, Work, Tony BennettPUBLISHED: December 21, 2007I lived in Aspen, Colorado with my wife and kids from 2003 to 2004. During this time, my wife worked at the St. Regis Hotel at the base of Aspen mountain (aka Ajax). Every Christmas, the St. Regis had a big party for their several hundred employees. It was grand - a real festive event with an amazing spread of food, drink and general merriment. Of course, it was Aspen...and the St. Regis, so the decorations were stunning. And they were topped off by a perfect dollop of fresh fallen snow every few hours. The song "My Favorite Things" reminds me of the party in December of 2004. You see I worked with their staff (thanks Vanessa!) to help edit and produce a video to show at the party using Tony Bennett's version of the song as the music. So when I hear Tony sing it, I remember the hours I spent editing the video and getting to know all the people in it. I remember how perfect everything looked on that cold December night with the snow falling like giant feathers of down; the wonderful food; the presents and of course, the video. And I remember holding hands with my wife as the evening drew to a close. We stood and gazed out a big picture window at the mountain all a glow from the snow and lights. I recall how we said "what a perfect moment, how lucky we are to enjoy this beauty." You know, there was wood all around us right then, but we didn't knock.
