Meeting Blair.....

My specialty has always been 80s so when I was offered the retro show at the radio station I was at, I was more than geeked and I put every ounce of myself into it (production, trivia, getting nostalgic commericials, themes, etc).

I found out that Lisa Welchel of "The Facts of Life" fame was coming into Lansing to promote some of her books, etc with the Hearts at Home tour (I believe that is what it was). Naturally, I *HAD* to get some sort of connections to be able to spend a few minutes with her to help promote my retro show and get drops (liners that run on the air over music intros "HI, this is Lisa Whelchel...you are listening to Carrie Gunn on 99.1....blah blah").

I called whomever it was that did her booking and they were more than happy to allow me some time with her. I prepared to meet her and got the mini-disc recorder ready, wrote some liners for her to use, etc.

Upon meeting Lisa, I was shocked at how SMALL she is. Short and very petite. and I mean VERY. No, not like "midget" standards, but small/petite-like. All I could wonder was if they put her on roller skates for the show, too, as they did Kim Fields!!!??? LOL

She was nice enough and did my drops, did an autograph for me, but she seemed a little "uppity"....at least that was the impression I got, anyway. Just not my type of person at all. But, she gave me what I wanted to promote and out the door I went.

I can't help but think of this experience whenever I hear the theme song...and be incredibly weirded out watching "BLAIR" since my original perception of her is totally blown.
