I used to read murder mystery novels and watch music videos on TV, and I desperately wanted to make my own. My generous mother offered to buy me one for a Christmas present, and trust me, she got her money’s worth. I started out turning my murder mystery novels into movies that starred all my friends. Part of me wishes I still had the videos now, and part of me doesn’t because I know that they were probably absolutely retarded. But I had fun ‘directing’ them, so to speak. Then, I fell in love with TLC’s hit song, “Creep”. Not only did I fall in love with the song, but I fell in love with the video. The girls in TLC were all dancing around in different colored silk pajamas, and I thought it was so cool. So I made my friend Liz dress up with me and make our own video. This video I definitely still wish I had. We dressed up in tight striped t-shirts (which was the style back then) and I wore white overalls over the shirt with my ‘John Lennon’ oval shaped sunglasses. I thought I was badass. Liz and I took turns standing in front of the camera, dancing and singing to ‘Creep’. On second thought, it may be a good thing that I don’t still have this video. It may not be quite as cool as I remembered. But at the time, we thought we were awesome. Or I did anyway. This was the beginning of many music videos to come, some which aren’t in my possession and I’m afraid are going to come back and haunt me someday. But nevertheless, we always had fun.
