Grunge Rock at it's BestLOCATION: Rockland , MAYEAR: 1996TAGS: friends, Hole, dancing, musicPUBLISHED: March 15, 2008When grunge rock took it’s toll in the early 90’s, Courtney Love became my hero. Not only because she was married to the man of my dreams, Mr. Kurt Cobain, but because she was a bad-ass grunge rocker chic who took shit from no one. I longed to grow up and be one of those bad-ass rocker chics someday, despite the fact that my entire family thought I was insane. Every time my friend Liz’s parents weren’t home, we’d run into her living room, blast Hole’s “Violet” from her speakers, and dance around her living room screaming the lyrics at the top of lungs. Then afterwards, we’d leave her house to go ride our bikes around our neighborhood. We’d laugh every time because as soon as we reached her driveway, we’d see the boys next door all hanging out in the driveway. They would all smirk at us and ask if we were having fun. Because Liz’s windows were open, we knew that they heard every word we were singing. The funny thing was that it didn’t even phase us. We’d just smile back and nod and ride away on our bikes. I still don’t know to this day if they secretly liked us, or if they thought we were insane. I think it might have been a mix of both. But we were bad-ass rocker chics, so either way, we didn’t care. I mentioned in a previous memory of when I sang Nirvana songs with a local band one night, and from then on my guidance counselor called me Courtney Love. It’s funny to think about now, because at the time, that was a huge compliment to me. Long live grunge.
