The song that caused tears of Joy

I had started watching American Idol during Season 3. I didn’t get into the show to much that season. Season 4 I voted a few times for Carrie Underwood and was glad she won but that was the end of it for me. I didn’t follow up with what was going with her career, and then came Season Five and Taylor Hicks. I was completely wrapped up in this season. I did not miss a single episode. I watched every night and rooted and voted for Taylor Hicks. I was so thrilled when he won and I have followed every thing about him ever since. I remember the first time I heard his winning song “Do I make You Proud” on the radio. My husband, children and I were in the car. I was driving somewhere. My husband was flipping through the channels on the radio and I heard the first few notes of “Do I Make You Proud” and then off to another channel the radio went. I was all excited and telling my husband turn it back, turn it back that was Taylor Hicks. He said no it was not, I was adamant that he turn it back and right now. He did as I asked and just as I had said, it was “Do I Make You Proud” thankfully it was still near the beginning of the song. My car grew instantly quiet as we all sat there in silence listening to this beautiful song by a man with a wonderful voice. I had tears in my eyes as I listened to the song. Yes Taylor Hicks had made all of his supporters very proud and I was so thrilled to hear the song on the radio. I had invested many hours watching, rooting and voting for this man and it was so great to finally hear the song being played on the radio. This was the first song that ever caused me to cry tears of joy simply because the song was the radio. Taylor seemed like a friend and I was so proud to know he had made it, and in some way I had some small part in seeing that happen. I have heard the song many times since but that first time will always stay in my memory. My husband and my children all knew how important hearing that song was to me and without even requesting their silence while it played they simply were just quiet and we all sat in the car that evening and enjoyed the song and the man singing it.
