Can't Fight This Feeling I Have

I remember quite well when REO Speedwagon’s song Can’t Fight This Feeling came out. I had recently turned 18 and I moved out of parents home and moved about 4 hours from home to live with friends. It didn’t take long before I realized I made a mistake. Instead of going home I went to stay with my aunt.

I had a friend that I had been close to for a couple years. He had grown very special to me and I knew I was falling in love with him but I didn’t tell him because I was scared to ruin our friendship. While I was at my aunts I talked to him on the phone and he asked if I was coming home? I told him no that I would probably stay with my aunt. He then informed me he was seeing someone.

After I got off the phone with him I felt sick to my stomach at the idea of him dating someone. I turned on the radio and a new song by REO Speedwagon came on. The words fit perfect for our relationship. A couple days later I told my aunt that I wanted to go back home. She made plans to take me home that weekend. I went to the store and bought the 45 of Can’t Fight This Feeling. I wrote a note to my friend telling him how I felt and that I was coming home and sent the letter and record out in the mail.

When I returned home that weekend he was at my parent’s house waiting for me. He told me how it meant to him that I sent him the song. He also told me that he heard the song before I sent to him and thought about me also.  We dated for about a year and it didn’t work out but we have always remained friends. I will always have fond memories related to this song.
