Valentine's Day with Nate

LOCATION: My Apartment , Provo, UT

YEAR: 2006

TAGS: Nate, college, dating

PUBLISHED: April 1, 2008

For Valentine's Day I got a dart board- well really it was a velcro board with velcro balls. I was really into this guy, Nate, and we were kind of dating, or at least I thought we were. We hung out on Valentine's Day but didn't do anything special. The day after he came over around 10:00 PM when all of my roommates were gone or already in bed because we all had school the next day. We turned out the lights and played with the velcro board. He threw the ball first and it landed on something silly like tickle your partner, not too bad. Then I threw the ball, and it landed on kiss the person to your left for 30 seconds. Well, there was not anyone else in the room so this would have been him but I was scared. We joked around about the game for a few minutes and then he made a comment to the effect that he wanted me to kiss him. Yeah right, I wasn't going to kiss him first. So I laughed it off and gave him the ball. He threw the ball for the last time, and it landed on serenade a girl in the room. He did the same thing with this one, laughed it off. But the problem was that he had an amazing voice- one of those voices that just make you melt so I pushed him to sing to me. He still wouldn't, so we quit the game. It wasn't doing us any good. We decided to sit down on the couch and just talk instead. Or maybe we decided that I was tired and wanted to take a nap on his lap instead- one way or another, I ended up with my head in his lap laying on the couch. He played with my hair and hands and sang James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" to me. That was one of the first times in my life that I really felt like someone thought I was beautiful. Nate taught me that- he taught me that I was worth something and really was beautiful to him and others around me.
