Learning Spanish with ShakiraLOCATION: Broad Run High School , Ashburn, VAYEAR: 2001TAGS: High School, SpanishPUBLISHED: April 2, 2008My sophomore year I had a decent Spanish teachers. I didn't actually learn a whole lot of Spanish but still enjoyed the class. The one thing I remember the most about the class is the day she brought in a Shakira CD for us to listen to. This was back when Shakira wasn't really popular- none of us had ever heard of her. She gave us all papers with the lyrics to the song "Estoy Aqui" but with blanks in the middle of each line. The goal was to listen to the song and try and fill in the blanks including the right conjugation and everything. Not really knowing Spanish, it was pretty tough because "Estoy Aqui" goes fairly fast. We listened to the song over and over again until we thought we knew the exact lyrics. Boy were we ALL wrong. Now every time I hear the beginning of this song, I remember that day and start to sing the lyrics in my head even before Shakira starts to sing. "Ya, se que no te vas..." I eventually learned Spanish and can sing the entire song through now, but listening to this song over and over again definitely helped make that happen.
