I was thirteen and at that stage in my life where I really wanted to fit in. I wanted to be a popular girl but didn't know how. I had friends but not particularly close ones. That summer I went to girl's camp for the 3rd time, and everything changed. I was put in a tent with two girls (Stephanie and Lauren) who would later become two of my best high school friends. We just clicked during that week. Our YCL's (youth camp leaders) were Shannon and Mary who I still think are some of the coolest girls ever. Each group had a name and we were the Jungle Superstars. (Camp had a jungle theme that year). Every night we had to come up with a group/cabin cheer, and we always wanted ours to be the best. In my mind, it always was the best. The one cheer that I remember the most vividly is our version of the song Ghetto Supastar. Everytime I hear this song, I start singing, "Jungle Superstar, that is who we are. Coming from a far, reaching for the stars..." and so on. I don't know the real words to the actual Ghetto version, but I like my version better anyway.
