In Love With Country

LOCATION: Mom' s Minivan , Ashburn, VA

YEAR: 1999

TAGS: Mom, country, family

PUBLISHED: April 27, 2008

I used to hate country, well maybe not hate, but definitely not like. I think despise is probably the best word for my strong feelings towards country. Then one summer my mom started to listen to it. Her first ever country CD was Trisha Yearwood, and she'd listen to that CD almost nonstop. My mom hated the radio because of the commercials and hated it even more when we'd switch channels back and forth and back and forth to find a song. She would turn it to 98.7 WMZQ and leave it there all the time if she had to listen to country. Most of the time she just popped in a CD. Like I said before, her first country CD that I remember was Trisha Yearwood, and she loved the song "She's In Love With the Boy." My mom doesn't have the best voice, but she would sing that song loudly along with Trisha and just smile away. That was the first new country CD anyone in my family ever owned, and it would definitely not be the last. I burned a copy of that CD and fell in love with not only "She's in Love with a Boy," but American Girl and Perfect Love as well. But that CD was my mom's first, and I still think of her when I hear anything by Trisha Yearwood.
