Hearing the Story for the First Time

LOCATION: Kody's Place , San Juan, Puerto Rico

YEAR: 2003

TAGS: Lauren, singing, high school

PUBLISHED: April 25, 2008

My friend Lauren and I were in Puerto Rico for our senior year spring break in high school. We were staying with my aunt Kori and Uncle Gene in their place and hanging out with my uncle Kody and his friends at their place. We’d gotten to know the guys fairly well and had a good time with them. One night we watched the movie Transformers, which I remember to be the worst acting I’d ever seen. We made fun of it almost the entire rest of the night. After the movie, all of the guys pulled out their guitars and began to play and sing for us. One guy, Jeff, played a song that I’d never heard before, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It was the song “Hear You Me” by Jimmy Eat World and just had this incredible tone and softness to it. They explained the meaning of the song and why Jimmy had written it, and the song became even more meaningful to me. Every time I hear the song even on a busy day, I stop and became just a little more grateful for life.
