A Turtle and Love

LOCATION: Liberty Square , Provo, UT

YEAR: 2005

TAGS: Sophomore year, dating

PUBLISHED: May 13, 2008

My sophomore year of college I was living with four great roommates, all who became some of my best friends. We were all beautiful girls, but Valentine's Day that year none of us were dating anyone, surprisingly enough. Actually none of us even had dates that year, so we decided to make a girl's night of it. To surprise everyone, I went out and bought little Valentine's Day presents for everyone. An M&M with sunglasses for "Hot Jenn," is the only present I remember vividly, and then I got a present for myself- a green turtle with a heart in his hand. When you squeezed on his hand, he played the song "You Can't Hurry Love" and spun in a circle and danced. He would stop halfway around the circle and "raise the roof." It was pretty cute. We put him on the piano in the living room, and everytime our friends came over they would turn him on and ask, "Who gave you this?" I always felt a little silly telling them I bought it for myself, but it was so cute, I guess it really didn't matter. "You Can't Hurry Love" has always been one of my favorite songs, and the green turtle just gave me a dance and memory to go along with it.
