Movie Theater MemoriesLOCATION: movie theater , Richmond VAYEAR: 2003TAGS: job, manager, workPUBLISHED: June 2, 2008I had just started college and had not yet discovered my desperate music obsession that would eventually see me spending one day a week at the record store and shelling out $600 for DJ equipment. For the meantime, I listened to REM. I dont know what about REM I liked so much. Was it is the way their songs were written? Michael Stipe's voice? Their lyrics? Who knew, but I began collecting their CDs. I was working at my first job. I worked at the local movie theater, where all the mall rat kids hung out on the weekends and their soccer moms tried to wrangle them. Thats what happens when you live in the suburbs. My job was to clean the theater and oh what a thrill it was. I was working with a bunch of immature high school kids who gossiped incessantly. One of my managers was Jeff. He was about 25, and one of the nicest and best people I have ever worked with. He was kind, funny, supportive. And he loved REM and had for years. We would talk about our favorite REM songs. He brought a bright spot to my otherwise boring days.
