Dancing On The BusLOCATION: bus , Niagara Falls, CanadaYEAR: 2000TAGS: school, bus, chorusPUBLISHED: June 1, 2008I was in chorus my sophomore year of high school, and it was time for the annual music department/colorguard spring trip. This was the stuff of legend at my school, and in past years the trips had been to such exotic locales as Italy, Germany, and Disney World. That year the trip destination was Toronto, Canada, where the choruses would sing and the bands would play in a competition. They would also stop in Niagara Falls on the way. The music students and colorguard descended on the school's softball field and adjacent parking lotin the evening of the departure. Everyone was out of their minds with excitement. The buses were loaded up, and I bid goodbye to my mom. My dad couldnt be there. On the bus, everyone was so excited as we drove off. Driving to Canada from Virginia? Who thought of that? It was loud on the bus, and they showed some movies, I believe Patch Adams and Dirty Dancing. It was a 14 hour drive, and I did not sleep at all. The whole way there, the adult chaperones insisted on tormenting us with a seventies disco hits compilation. They would play it over and over, until everyone on the bus knew the words to every single song. About 6 in the morning we arrived in Niagara Falls. We were exhausted, but thrilled. The disco was still playing, and I vividly remember a group of us dancing in the back of the bus to Shake Your Booty.
