I remember when I first discovered Kaskade. I'd started collecting vinyldance records while saving for decks, and I found the single Be Still at my local record store. It was still in the wrapper so I couldnt listen to it, but I bought it anyway cause it was $5 and I thought I'd heard of Kaskade somewhere.

I got it home, put it on my record player, and was instantly in love. My favorite track was the Robbie Rivera Juicy Ibiza Mix. It sounded like a video game with all its bleeps and techno like effects. I went to the web site on the back for more info. Kaskade, aka Ryan Raddon. San Francisco. DJ/producer.

I went back and bought his Stars Align single and fell in love with that, then listened to all his songs I could find online. The man was a brilliant producer who wrote inexpressably beautiful music.

Fast forward one year later.

I had just gotten my decks and had been DJing exactly a month. I was exploring genres. I loved trance, house, drum n bass, and techno. I loved it all so much and was struggling to find a genre. Every DJ needs a genre, dont they? I feared I would end up without one. I hadnt believed my mentor when she told me my tastes would change as I continued DJing. In the midst of all my hours of practice with no results and many broken needles, I found out that Kaskade was playing DC.

Oh my god. Kaskade. In DC. I went with my boyfriend. He had never been to a club before. I had also never heard Kaskade DJ before.

THe music was amazing. Kaskade played Stars Align as the second song in his set. Over the course of the night he played deep, sexy, seductive house, and his set was flawless, achingly beautiful, and deeply emotional and moving. At one point I burst out sobbing in the middle of the dance floor.

Then....it happened. I heard the first second and ahalf of Be Still and completely lost it, screaming and jumping around. I sang along at the top of my voice.

I consider that night very influential in my DJ life. Its the night I fell in love with house. I found my genre on Five's dance floor.I have played house since, and I am still in love with Kaskade.

(This song is Be Still, not In This Life, it is mislabeled. Somebody should fix that)
