Rap TraxxLOCATION: My Walkman , TorontoYEAR: 1993TAGS: beastie boys, hip-hop, rap, hey ladiesPUBLISHED: April 7, 2008I remember when I was a kid one day I found this cassette at my dad's hardware store called Rap Traxx vol. 3. He used to sell those cheesy compilation cassettes by the cash register and I would always flip through them to see if there was anything good, though it was rare. For some reason I wanted this tape when I was like 12. I think it may be because there was a Fresh Prince song on it and I knew him from the show. I remember that was one of the first tapes I ever really listened to a lot. It got me into Fresh Prince and Beastie Boys, especially because this song was on it. I can't remember everyone that was on there, but I remember there was Maestro Fresh Wes and possibly an Ice-T song. I remember listening to this on my walkman and going away to summer camp and one afternoon in particular where I had brought my stereo outside and I was rolling around playing with my old dog Spike. EvenĀ a couple of years later when I was getting more into alternative rock and metal, I still listened to a little bit of rap, namely Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys, Snoop Doggy Dogg and stuff in the early '90s. I guess I have that tape to thank for first really getting me into rap and hip-hop.
