PETETHEMEAT | MEMORY FROM 2006 Just Like an Old ShowLOCATION: Kool Haus , TorontoYEAR: 2006TAGS: hardcore, warzone, wake the dead, comeback kid, NYHCPUBLISHED: May 8, 2008A few years ago a good friend of mine named Brendan asked if I wanted to go see Comeback Kid in Toronto with A Death For Every Sin, and a bunch of other Canadian bands. It was a reunion show for A Death For Every Sin, who were originally from Montreal and were definitely one of the best Canadian hardcore bands ever. Brendan and I went down to the Kool Haus on that chilly Saturday afternoon for the matinee show. I had already been going to shows for years, but this was around the time when I was really bored of hardcore and heavy music in general. To me, there just wasn't anything fresh or original that I really liked. All the tech and "math metal" stuff was the craze a few years ago and I really didn't like it at all. This was a show I was excited for. There were a bunch of bands playing, and one of the most impressive was a band from Halifax called Risky Bizness. I had never heard of them before, but their style reminded me of old school Warzone or something like that. Just standing there, watching them, with the lights on in the venue that afternoon and so many young kids going crazy just totally brought me back. A few local bands played and by the time A Death For Every Sin took the stage, the place was rammed with people. The lights were still on inside because it was still fairly early and it just added so much to the atmosphere. By the time Comeback Kid took the stage, the lights were off and swarms of kids packed the place to stage dive, dance and hang from the rafters. Seeing all the people singing along and piling on top of each other full of so much energy really reminded me of why I fell in love with hardcore in the first place as I realized that good hardcore will just never die.
