There hasn't been a song before or after that makes my hair stand on end the same way.

I was 15, tall, lankey, covered in acne, but I could skate. In fact, it was about all I could do, that and score goals. I was a freshman, playing with all the older guys and it was my first real exposure to anything even remotely cool.

When you grow up with a bunch of sisters in a FREEZING northern town, you either play hockey or sit around and so I chose the first option.

Like most small towns, the goal is to 'make the team', referring to high school varsity, and then 'make it to states'.

We did both that year, and this was the theme song that brought us there, and that brought me into manhood.

What wonderful freedom to be on the back of a bus, shouting "THUNDER" at the top of my lungs with a 17 other sweaty hockey players, celebrating the first State Championship in 15 years.
