My father, brother, and I got to take a road trip to Missouri to visit my grandma, grandpa, aunt and cousins. My mom was unable to come so it was just a fun trip with dad and his kids.  I had just turned 19 at the time.

Somewhere in the state of Illinois I remember we were listening to a random radio station when Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses was aired.  I had never heard the song before so I knew it had to be new.  I had heard of Bob Carlisle though since my mom was a big fan of his.

My brother was asleep in the back seat and I was in the passenger seat.  The song is about a little girl growing up and getting married.  A real tear jerker.  Anyways listening to the song there was silence in the car.  I was starring out the window to the right of me, tears gushing down my face.  The song was just too much.  I started thinking of me growing up with my dad and here I am 19 and almost engaged to be married.

When the song was over, my dad let out a big PHEWWW! That's all he said.  I didn't dare to see if there were tears.  That song really got to both of us.  I look back at that time as one of the final tender moments between my dad and myself before he walked me down the aisle in 1999.
