D'sonne Disowned

LOCATION: The Mall , Pensacola, FL

YEAR: 2002

TAGS: Johnny Rzeznic, Darcee

PUBLISHED: April 30, 2008

We used to make fun of my friend, Darcee, because here middle name was D'sonne.  It is very close to disown, and we used to tell her that her parents were going to D'sonne her for getting into trouble all the time.  One day, she told me that she heard her middle name D'sonne in a Goo Goo Dolls song, and since it was an uncommon name jokingly said she and Johnny Rzeznik were connected.

Darcee and I were really close, and were both sad when I moved away for college.  It was a big step for me to move from safe, little Amarillo, TX to Gainesville, FL, and I wasn't sure that it was the right decision.  I packed up my with all of my things and drove down to Gainesville.  On the way, I stopped in and visited with an old friend of mine (from 2nd grade) who was at the Navy base in Pensacola.

Sean, my Navy friend, had some classes to attend, so I decided I would just go to the mall and wander around for a while until he was done.  I walked into a store an noticed there was some sort of buzz going on, and that some girls seemed really excited.  I went over and asked what was going on, and she said that Johnny Rzeznic was in the mall, since they had a show later on that evening.  It makes me sad to see people freak out about famous people.  They're still people and I figure they want to be treated like regular people.  So I was walking around a little more, and went into a cigar shop.  Towards the back, I ran into Mr. Rzeznic.  He was looking at buying some cigars.

I said Hey, and asked him if he had a show tonight.  He was pretty chill about it, said yes, I wished him luck and continued to browse around the store.  I ran into him again at the register, and I rememberd about Darcee's middle name, and the fact that she was pretty much obsessed with him.  So I ask him, "Hey, I know this is kind of a pain in the ass, but I was wondering if you could say hey to my friend for me?  She is a big fan of yours, and it would pretty much make her year."  He looked at me, and said he would.  He actually seemed like it was fun for him.  As I was calling, I told him that her middle name was D'sonne, so she wondered where that came from.  He looked at me a little strangely, but just sort of move past it.  I got her on the phone, and handed it to him.  He told her who he was, and she freaked out, I could her her saying, "No Way".  They talked for a little bit, and then I heard him say "Oh, I say your ma disowned you."  He laughed they talked a little more, and he hands the phone back to me.  I asked "your ma disonwed you?" He says, "Yeah, I don't actually say D'sonne, it say disowned, but that is a pretty name."  I lauged and told him how we made fun of her since her middle name was so close to disown.  He laughed.  It was funny, I talked to her a little later, and she told me about it.  I guess people just hear what they want to hear.
