I had a stomach virus and had been ill for several days. I stumbled into my parents bedroom and told my mother I couldn't sleep. She got up from her bed, grabbed some blankets from the closet, and began making me a nest on the couch in the living room. I loved these late nights! She went back to her bedroom and the infinite power of the remote control and very little adult supervision grabbed ahold of me like a vice. I flipped trough a few channels before landing on MTV. It was the forbidden channel in my house. Not even my much Older sister was allowed to watch MTV. Victory was sweet! I watched a few nameless music videos before srtiking GOLD! It was Michael Jackson's Music Video Thriller. Watching through my fingers I was both mesmorized and horrified. I was scared and amazed watching Michael turn from a man to a werewolf, to a zombie, and then back to a man again. It was during this late night adventure that I grew a real appreciation for Michael Jackson. What an incredible genious. I soaked up every drop of the nearly 15 minute music video and never told a soul about my guilty music video pleasure. Now as an adult looking back at those days (when MTV still played music videos) I have an even greater appreciation for Michael Jackson. He is a true and timeless artist. What an innovative wonder! It was most definitely an innovative technique in the 80's but I'd venture to say that nothing has been comparable since either.
