Hymn To Her

Tomorrow we celebrate the second birthday in less than a week, my daughters. Tomorrow she turns three. I've heard a couple different theories over the years about the meaning of this song. The general consensus is that it's an openly pagan song written about the Goddess. Being that Chrissie Hynde is openly pagan, it makes sense. It also makes sense that I relate this song to having my daughter.

There is truly something magical in the relationships women share with other women. Mothers & Daughters, sisters, aunts, friends, grandmother. There is something so cosmic about it, and if I hadn't already believed it before I had my little girl, I certainly do now.

The relationship I share with my daughter is definitely different than the one I share with my son. Not to say it's better or stronger, of course it's not. I love both my babies very much. I think somewhere though there is this idea that somewhere out there is a little girl out there who will grow up to take my place in my son's life. I don't mean that in a bad way at all, it's the way of the universe. I just hope that when that time comes I will have raised him to choose that girl wisely, and to treat her with love & honor.

My daughter on the other hand, well I think she & I will be good friends & sisters, as well as mother & daughter. I talk to my mom once a day, at least, everyday. My sister does as well. I hope that my own daughter will share that same bond. Infact, I'm know we will. I know we will, because I felt that bond begin the day I found out I was pregnant with her.

She is three years old tomorrow. She is so strong, and funny, and independent. Man that little girl is fierce. She already has the world in her hands. She's in charge, that's for sure. That's me. That confidence and strength is me. This song just brings tears to my eyes because, I know her place in this world will be an important one. The universe is already weaving it's magic on that little girl, making her the amazing person she already is.

Look out world, because she's coming...
