Connections are Funny ThingsLOCATION: Triple Door , Seattle, WAYEAR: 2005TAGS: Links, Mannish Boys, Blues, FriendshipPUBLISHED: April 9, 2008How do we connect with people? Families provide our first links -- to mother, father, and siblings. Mother and Father each offer possible connections to Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandparents, and other branches of the family tree. The first time I saw a picture ofmy cousin Kathy's grandchild -- all dressed up in a furry animal costume -- I realized that I was related to EVERYONE because I could have walked by that child on the street.I would have though "cute kid", but not "mine". Yet she was. Friends are another link in the chain of connections, andI've been lucky about collecting some great friends along life's path. Judy is one of them. She and I have shared children, travelling, Outward Bound, Scrabble, weddings, funerals, and other friends. Our next challenge is to share choir -- a challenge given that we live 4,000 miles apart. MyFriend-Cousinlink isthru the Mannish Boys. While planning a visit to Seattle to see Judy, my cousin Tom sent me his touring schedule with the Mannish Boys. Serendipity struck andwegot to hear Tom in concert while forging still another link.Judy's son, my godson, is a blues fan. Music is a connector for me. ThanK God.
