MeowLOCATION: Notre Dame Stadium , Notre DameYEAR: 1995TAGS: misheard lyrics, Notre Dame, college, football, Paul SimonPUBLISHED: April 15, 2008Third quarter, third quarter! The student body lumbered to its feet after twenty minutes of grateful halftime sitting. Up. I clutched at the tan plastic mug of hot chocolate in my hand, purchased far more for the warmth than the watery calories it held. Three months ago we'd rolled the sleeves of our identical tee shirts up over the shoulder, slathered on sunblock and wailed when a burst water pipe cut off the ice in the stadium. Carah walked around campus with the outline of a shamrock sticker firmly burnt into her left cheek. Now there was only numbness, and frozen nose hairs. A small squad of horn players and drums broke off from Notre Dame's marching band, huddled directly across from us, and made its way around the endzone to the student section. "Oh!" I said, jabbing Carah through several layers of fleece, hollering over her head at the rest of our friends. "Look, they're coming to play that one song I like!" "Which one?" "Oh, you know! The one about the cats." "The... cats." "Yeah! When everybody sings 'Call Meow?'" She broke it to me gently.
