I was beginning to get bored with the top 40, not finding very many songs I enjoyed. Then, one day, as I watched music videos on TV, I spotted the Billy Ray Cyrus song, Achy Breaky Heart. Finally, a song I could tap along to and enjoy. It had a large effect on me. Not only did I enjoy the video and music, but also I began to take an interest in line dancing, which was portrayed in the video. I know I am not the only person to be affected this way, as for a few months, everything seemed to be promoting line dancing. A group of dancers gave a demonstration at the mall, the neighbors drooled over Billy, and even years later when we planned a vacation in Nashville, line dancing was on our agenda.

I would not have been aware of line dancing had it not been for this song. When browsing the brochures about Nashville, I spotted that line dancing lessons were available free at one of their popular venues, the Wildhorse Saloon. I recalled the song, and then the video. Line dancing seemed fun. Naturally, my son and I opted to schedule a trip to the establishment at the time the flyer announced the venue offered these lessons. I was looking for as many musical experiences as I could find, and my son just liked trying new things, though he told me he might sit and watch if it was too difficult.

We never did get to try out the line dancing. On the date it was scheduled, the venue played a football match on a giant screen instead. This was a little disappointing, although my son was somewhat relieved. I thought it a shame not to get my dance on our vacation, but I still had my memories of the song to enjoy. I am sure I would not have been very good at the steps anyway.
