These days I listen to a larger variety of genres, and it is more the location and non-commercial status of the band that draws me in. One of the bands I did enjoy a decade or so ago that was not in my usual style was Metallica. I think it was originally their videos that pulled me in, but once watching enthusiastically, the tunes just caught onto me.
