The video was my break

When I first got interested in watching music videos on TV, I did so on a program that ran from very early in the morning through to a much more reasonable hour, such as nine or ten am. The show used to be on for many hours but I would turn it on and tune in to the music, seriously following the charts. At the time, my son was not even a year old, so I usually had peace and quiet for much of the show. A few years later, as my son aged and got louder, I had very little peace at certain times when trying to watch videos, however.

Despite the lack of interruption from my son at this time, other matters needed to be attended to during this long music program. I would need to make at least one cup of coffee, visit the bathroom on at least one occasion, and in this era of my life I ate a breakfast meal, so that had to be created also. Each of these matters took me away from the videos, if not from hearing the music in the distance.

November Rain had a long video. I enjoyed listening to it, but after watching it a few times, did not much mind missing the visuals. Therefore, whenever this song came on, I would take a break from being curled up on my lounge. I would go and fix a coffee or visit the bathroom. Generally, I could still hear the melody issuing out from the TV in the lounge. Most songs did not offer a long enough duration to enable me to complete my tasks whilst a single song was playing. That is why this particular song comes to mind when I look back upon those days of my 'music on TV' addiction. It was my coffee break song, my toilet break song, my breather, for several weeks.
