It can be very tempting to wish to own such a thing as a love potion, and in my teens when I first heard this song, I would gladly have donated much of my spare cash in order to obtain such. Especially if it were given to the chosen young man of my heart on my behalf. However, these days, I would much rather put away all fakery and trickery, and go for the real thing - the whole truth and nothing but! Only a real and natural love will now suffice for this fusspot 40+ year old.

Back in my teenage years, romance was the core of love. This seems to be natural in society today, where most people prefer to look for fun times and happy pleasures in that superficial 'roses and chocolates' lifestyle that is called love. At the time I first heard the song, I had the hots for a certain man, somewhat older than myself, who was blissfully single. I did everything I could do, but he did not seem to take any notice of me at all. Maybe he saw me as a friend, if anything. Therefore, this song usually extracted feelings of desirous wishes from me. I would daydream away from the song itself, and wonder what might be if I myself had an available love potion to hasten results in my bland and basic friendship. Blushing, smiling, bumping knees when seated nearby - none of these methods worked. Perhaps a love potion was all that ever would. Alas, I had to stick to enjoying the song and dropping the friendship, for despite the fact that he still has not got himself a partner, I moved out of town, then migrated to a different country, leaving my dreams behind me and getting on with living life for real.
