I was not impressed with high school. Even on my very first day, as I sat in the first assembly and waited for my name to be called out, I was somewhat apprehensive. My best friend's name got called, but alas, not mine. I was not going to be in the same class any more. When my name had failed to be called at all, leaving a group of three or four students with worried faces standing alone after everybody else had been allotted to their new class, I had hoped that maybe I was just forgotten, and in her class after all.

I ended up in a class with only three students previously known to me. I became very nervous. One of the first three students I spoke to was called Dinah. She had a cool hair do but was not excessively popular, though much more so than I ever was.

On one occasion, I was sending out invites to my birthday party and Dinah asked if she could come. I would have invited her if my parents had not set a limit on the number of friends to invite, but... being challenged, and having the notion of my party being worth attending by someone higher in school status than me, I said that yes, she could come! I then had to inform my mother than Dinah - and her friend who had also asked when hearing me agree to Dinah coming - were invited as well as the number I had been allowed. This event comes to mind whenever I hear the name Dinah, or this song!
