Rolling on the floor in a satin sheet

Whilst at elementary school, I used to come home during the lunch break to eat a meal. I only lived a few minutes away from the school and there were only two minor roads to cross. Originally, my mother would fetch me. Once I had progressed from the infants level to the upper classes, I would bring myself home at lunch hour.

I did not mess around, but always hurried home. It was not due to my greed, but my eagerness to watch Skippy on TV. The program began five minutes after our lunchtime began. If I did not hurry, I would miss the start. I used to rush into the lounge, switch on the TV, and then watch whilst my mother handed me my meal. After the show, I generally made my way back to school, having finished my meal.

On school vacations and weekends, I used to play an imagination game involving this TV program. I had in my possession a gold colored satin sheet. I used to roll about on the floor all tangled up with the sheet, pretending that it was a fire trying to burn and kill me. I would sing the theme song to Skippy at an appropriate moment - usually after some energetic movements on the floor and bumping into the settee or a chair several times first. The game would end when I imagined the copter pilot from the show came to rescue me. This was done by his 'ghost' extracting me from this satin sheet of fire and placing me into his helicopter, which was conveniently 'acted' by the sofa. I would then erupt in the theme song again. This game was repeated several times in a row, until I got bored of rolling about, singing, and daydreaming about Tony Bonner. The theme song to the show never fails to bring back this embarrassing childhood memory.
