One of the movies I did not catch when it first came out, but grew to adore many years afterwards, is Flashdance. I would probably not have bothered to watch it, had I not obtained an interest in the acting career of Cynthia Rhodes, who held a part in the movie. The movie came on TV and I watched it because of her involvement. Cynthia being so thin and bendy, she was great inspiration for me to stick to my diet and exercise routine.

A few years later, my son and I were vacationing in Queanbeyan, near Canberra. We were staying in a motel on a main street and there was a video option connected to the TV in our room. The motel itself had movies that did not interest either my son or I, so we went to apply for a temporary membership at the local video store. After searching the entire shop, Flashdance was the movie I selected to borrow. We took it to our motel after a day out to the Dinosaur museum, Model Village and Olde Fashioned Store that has so delighted my son.

Munching pizza as we watched, we both viewed the movie. Pizza gone and an evening walk partaken of, I put the movie on again. My son was now fed up of the movie and decided to play with some toy dinosaurs, bounce on the bed, and participate in other childhood enjoyments. By the time I had seen it for the second time, I knew where the best bits were - the songs and dance routines. I therefore stayed up late, replaying these, over and over again. My son eventually gave up and went to bed.

In the morning, he was horrified to find me playing the video. I had risen early and after preparing the cereal, coffee and toast, popped the video back in the slot. Once more skipping through to the best bits only, I was playing the main song, Flashdance - What a Feeling.

I will always remember the look on my son's face at that moment when I hear this song. He was so worried that I had stayed up all night watching the movie, because it might mean that our plan for a trip into Canberra city would be cancelled if I had yet gone to bed.
