I first heard the song many years ago, in my teens. I had picked up a double cassette of the band, not having a clue who they were, and started to play a tape. It is most likely to be my own unusual taste in music rather than my parents', but my Mother already knew the band well.

I thought I caught her humming the song whilst preparing dinner, but was not sure. However, when she actually started singing it later on, I knew that she knew the song and band. On being questioned, she agreed that yes, she did know both the song and the band. Apparently, The Searchers were yet another of those 60's bands that were quite famous that I had never heard of until exploring a record store and picking up a possible gem.

This was my habit for around 20 years of my life. I would pop to the shop, rummage about the new and used shelves until something caught my interest, and then it became mine. It always delighted me if my parents had never heard of the performer, for I then felt I had made a discovery. Such findings as Frida Boccarra and Dominic Savage tapes had this result. When my parents did know the band it was disappointing. Yet it gave me the opportunity to question them about their past, learning about when they had first heard those songs that I had only just discovered. This is something I cannot share with my own son. His taste in music is very narrow.
