My son might have been a farmer

This song reminds me of one of the career choices my teenage son formerly made. Originally aimed at becoming a paleontologist, then a town planner, the latest enthusiasm before his current attitude of not wishing to work at all, but walk off and live wild in the mountains the day he reaches the age of 18 and is thus legally allowed to, was to become an organic farmer.

Farming is in our family - from long, long ago. My father's ancestors were farmers. I discovered an old relative from about 150 years previous, when investigating my family history on one occasion. My father himself mentioned a grandfather who had been a horseman for a local estate.

My son was pro-environment, eager to garden, and wanted to become an organic farmer. This craze lasted for two or three years of his teens, until he realized that gardening alone was hard work at times. He still wanted to be a farmer, but decided that he was not going to able to do this. I still retain the hope that a farming apprenticeship might happen, because I know that if he gave it a shot, he would enjoy himself. He is always wandering about in nature and well suited to outdoor employment. We shall see...
