Mine was big and black, but...

I was about fifteen when I first wished to purchase and wear a bikini. I am not sure why I suddenly wished to do so. Perhaps it was peer pressure or perhaps just as I grew up I wished to change my fashion image. I had formerly worn a one-piece swimsuit and kept it for my visits to the pool or ocean; however, I now wished to buy a bikini for the purpose of sunbathing in the back yard.

My parents were rather reserved in their own attire. Although my mother had a habit of wearing unfashionably bright and clashing color combinations, both parents tended to cover up the majority of their body whether the weather was cold or warm. Their reaction to my suddenly wishing to purchase a skimpy two-piece bathing costume was one of reluctance. It was not proper attire in their opinion, but as I now chose my own clothing, their opinion was not going to dissuade me.

I bought a black bikini and subsequently began to sunbathe in a garden recliner whilst wearing it. Seeing that reluctance remained in my parents, I questioned them on this. Cheekily, I brought up the subject of a certain song I had sometimes heard played on their chosen radio station. I firmly stated that my bikini was fairly substantial and covered quite a portion of my body compared to the one mentioned in the song. I also brought the fact to view that mine was black, not bright or spotty. My parents gradually got used to my 'modern' fashion choices, though whether or not relating to the song had any impact I am unsure.
