It helped me migrate

Before I migrated to Australia, I had an interest in several countries. Australia was one of my major interests, however. I found England too small; I was claustrophobic in that country. I watched many of the movies and soapies issuing from Australia at a time when they were just beginning to become extremely popular. I listened to some Australian music also. One of the songs I recall from this era of my life was Down Under. It was featured in a TV show I enjoyed, but I had no idea which band performed it at that time.

Many years later, after I had actually migrated to Australia, I came across this song again. It was playing along with a video on a TV music show. I was extremely curious and gave it my full attention. I had not heard it often enough to have learned all the lyrics, but I instantly recognized the tune and tried to catch the words, which had been unclear when heard previously. I finally learned the name of the band who sung the song, though I did not know of any of their other work.

I rarely hear the tune now, but it brings back memories of those days when I was young and eager to get where I wanted to be, rather than stay where I was. It signifies my desire to escape a false start in life and get somewhere. I recall my friends in England singing and laughing along to this song to tease me, knowing that Australia was one of the places I would rather be. I was one who eventually did end up coming down under in person, the one who fulfilled their dream. Although my move overseas did not turn out to be quite as wonderful as I had hoped, this song still stands well with me, signifying the obtainment of dreams.
